Murphy takes role in conflict resolution

Jim Murphy, the former Scottish Labour leader, has secured a new job advising on conflict resolution in central Asia, it emerged yesterday.

Mr Murphy, who quit his job as the head of Labour in Scotland after its disastrous performance in this year’s general election, is understood to have secured a position with Crisis Management Initiative, a Finnish non-profit organisation.

His role will be to advise on “conflict resolution in central Asia”.

Mr Murphy is a former UK cabinet minister, having served as Scottish secretary under Gordon Brown, and is a member of the privy council.

He was also minister for Europe when Mr Brown was prime minister. He took over the Scottish Labour party after its former leader, Johann Lamont, resigned, claiming that the UK…
