Walter Walsh (born 25 May 1991) is an Irish hurler who currently plays as a right corner-forward for the Kilkenny senior team.[1]
Born in Brownstown, County Kilkenny, Walsh was raised in a strong sporting family. His parents and grandparents all enjoyed success at local and national levels with hurling, Gaelic football, camogie and golf.
Walsh enjoyed his first sporting successes as a player of hurling, football and rugby with Good Counsel College. He simultaneously came to prominence at juvenile and underage levels with the Tullogher-Rosbercon club before eventually joining the club's senior team. The highlight of his club career came in 2008 when he won a Leinster medal in the junior grade.
Walsh first arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of seventeen when he first linked up with the Kilkenny minor team, before later joining the under-21 side. Walsh made his senior debut during the 2012 championship and immediately became a regular member of the starting fifteen.[2] Since then he has won three All-Ireland medals, one Leinster medal and three National Hurling League medals.

Playing career[edit]
Club[edit]
Walsh has enjoyed much success with Tullogher-Rosbercon during his short club career.
In 2008 Walsh was only seventeen years-old when he was a key forward on the club's top team. He won a Leinster medal that year as Wexford side Clongeen were accounted for on a score line of 1-19 to 3-8.[3] Tullogher were subsequently beaten by Dripsey in the All-Ireland final.[4]
Inter-county[edit]
Walsh first came to prominence on the inter-county scene as a member of the Kilkenny minor team in 2008. He won a Leinster medal that year before later lining out in the All-Ireland decider against Galway. Kilkenny were outplayed for much of the game, however, a late goal secured a 3-6 to 0-13 victory and an All-Ireland medal for Walsh.[5]
In 2009 Walsh added a second consecutive Leinster medal to his collection, however, Galway gained their revenge for the previous year's defeat in the All-Ireland final with a 2-15 to 2-11 victory.[6]
Walsh later played with the Kilkenny under-21 team, however, he enjoyed little success in this grade. He won a Leinster medal in this grade in 2012 following a huge 4-24 to 1-13 defeat of Laois.[7] 'The Cats' were later considered warm favourites for the All-Ireland title, however, Clare won the decider by 2-17 to 2-11.[8]
By this stage Walsh had also joined the Kilkenny senior team. He made his championship debut at full-forward in the All-Ireland final replay against Galway.[9] He scored 1-3 from play and collected his first All-Ireland medal as Kilkenny defeated Galway by 3-22 to 3-11.[10] Walsh finished off a memorable debut by claiming the man of the match award.[11][12]
In 2016, Walsh won an All-Star for his performances throughout the season in spite of suffering defeat in the All Ireland final to Tipperary.
Street Hurling Film[edit]
In 2017, Walter appeared in a Street Hurling film created by Peil Star with Patrick Curran (Waterford), Niall McKenna (Antrim) and Tadhg De Burca (Waterford). The film was shot on the Falls Road in Belfast for the BBC. [13]
