Long periods of GPU inactivity with tensorflow
I am training a fully convolutional network using tf.estimator in tensorflow. My batch queue is full (see graph below) and the gpu is not waiting for batches from the CPU. Yet as seen from the traces (attaching 2 images of traces), there is a large time interval of inactivity in the GPU between receiving a batch and processing it in GPU or even before requesting for a batch. Would be very helpful if you could help me in understand what is happening here. batch queue fill ratio
