Alastair Clarkson is the current coach of the Hawks, and has led the club to five Grand Finals, winning four of them.

The Hawthorn Football Club are a professional Australian rules football team based in Mulgrave, Victoria, playing in the Australian Football League. The team began as the Mayblooms before changing their nickname to the Hawks in 1942.

There have been 27 coaches in history of the Hawthorn Football Club. Alec Hall became the first coach of the club in 1925 but only lasted one season. Alastair Clarkson who has been the current coach since 2005, has led the team for more games coached (329), home and away games coached (303), games won (205), home and away wins (189), finals games (26), finals wins (16), and VFL/AFL premierships (4). Clarkson is the only coach in the club's history to coach the team to consecutive premierships. Clarkson has led the team to five AFL Grand Final appearances, winning four of them. John Kennedy Sr led the team to their inaugural premiership in 1961, and won a further two in 1971 and 1976. Allan Jeans led the team to three premierships (1983, 1986, 1989) during the 1980s in a decade where the team played in seven consecutive Grand Finals from 1983–1989. Alan Joyce coached the club to two premierships in 1988 and 1991. David Parkin is the only other coach to lead the team to a premiership (1978).

The club has had five interim coaches. Fred Phillips was appointed coach for the 1933 season but died before the season started. Arthur Rademacher was named interim coach. He coached four games before the club appointed Bill Twomey Sr. as coach for the rest of the season. In 1957, John Kennedy Sr stepped in as interim coach for one game after Jack Hale was involved in an automobile accident. In 1973, Roy Simmonds was the interim coach for one game while John Kennedy Sr was coaching the VIctorian side. In 2001, Connolly coached one game, in the absence of regular coach, Peter Schwab, who was ill. In 2004, Donald McDonald was appointed interim coach after the club fired coach Peter Schwab late in the season due to a disappointing year. In 2014, Brendon Bolton coached five games as Clarkson was forced to step down due to illness.
