How can I specify a custom group when adding a user to my VSTS organisation

When I try to add a user via 'Organisation settings > Users', I see this:
The only other groups in the dropdown for 'VSTS Groups' are Project Readers and Project Administrators.
I have a custom group added to my organisation, with appropriate permissions that need to be enforced for new users.
Question: Is there a way to set the group of a new user to a custom group? Or do I have to submit this as a feature request?
It's frustrating having to remember to add the new user later to the appropriate group, and I can forget to do this; in this case, they can get more permissions than they should.

Together with this feature: developercommunity.visualstudio.com/idea/365872/…, this would provide for a seamless way to add a new user with the right permissions, upfront.
