"Wake Up Call" is a song by American pop rock band Maroon 5. It was released on July 17, 2007, as the second single from their second studio album It Won't Be Soon Before Long (2007).
They performed the song on 45th at Night, which included a special guest Eve.[1] The remix was never officially recorded. Another remix created by Mark Ronson and featured guest Mary J. Blige, was released on November 13, 2007[2] and was included on the band's remix album Call and Response: The Remix Album (2008). The song was featured on the television shows, Entourage[3] and The Hills.[4] Before the release of "Wake Up Call", the band promoted by performing it a half-step lower. The song was BBC Radio 1 playlisted for the playlist week beginning July 18, 2007. As of June 2014, the song has sold 1,821,000 copies in the US.[5]

Background[edit]
The band confirmed the song as the album's second single on MTV's Total Request Live on May 22, 2007.
Music video[edit]
The music video for "Wake Up Call" is directed by Jonas Åkerlund. The video is presented as a trailer for an imaginary NC-17-rated film. It features Adam Levine's leading lady for the video, Kim Smith, talking with the suspicious Levine, asking for his forgiveness since she had sex with another man whom Levine doesn't know and who serves as the antagonist in the video. As the video progresses, Levine arrives home, kicking down the door upon hearing noises coming from the bedroom and catches his girlfriend cheating on him with the other man (played by Jeremy Sisto).
As his girlfriend tries to break up the fight between both men while attempting to explain the reason of her infidelity to her boyfriend, Levine immediately shoots him in the chest, killing him. While his girlfriend watched in horror as her lover dies from the fatal gunshot, Levine covers up the body and drags it out of the bedroom. The rest of the video centers around Maroon 5 and Levine's girlfriend going through an elaborate plan to cover up the murder.
A director's cut version include more scenes from the original video.[6]
Live performances[edit]
Maroon 5 performed "Wake Up Call" on their It Won't Be Soon Before Long Tour (2007–2008). On September 6, 2007, Maroon 5 performed the song for the 2007 Fashion Rocks in Manhattan, New York City.[7] On February 2, 2008, the band also performed with Mary J. Blige for the Pepsi Smash Super Bowl Bash, a pre-show of the Super Bowl XLII.[8][9]
