Python can only compare identically labeled dataframe objects error
Total noob here just trying to do something in Python. I hope this is clear, please excuse the inevitability that I'm probably not using the correct terms (noob remember). I'm using Jupyter Notebook and Python 3.6.
I'm trying to compare a inventory list of items 'listing.csv' with a list of vendors 'vendors.csv'. I'm trying to calculate what the Vendor commission as a cost is. Comparing the inventory sheet to the list of vendors. Not all of the vendors in the inventory sheet are listed in the 'vendors.csv' sheet I did go through and make sure they are identically spelled though the ones that are there. Does my code look correct to get the desired outcome of a new column named 'Cost1'?
import pandas as pd
import numpy as np
dfi = pd.read_csv('listing.csv', encoding="ISO-8859-1")
dfv = pd.read_csv('vendors.csv', encoding="ISO-8859-1")
vendori=dfi['Vendor']
vendorv=dfv['Vendor']
def calculate_cost(commission):
cost = vendori-(vendori*dfv['Percentage'])
for item_cost in vendori:
if vendori == vendorv:
calculate_cost
return cost
elif vendori != vendorv:
dfi['Cost']
dfi['Cost1']=dfi.commission.apply(cost)
What I'm trying to do is take line Vendor and Compare to the Vendor.CSV and claculate their commission amount to adjust the cost1 line on the inventory sheet.

vendori and vendorv are columns, so vendori == vendorv does not make sense. if you want to select a row a vendor in dfi where the 'vendor' has a specific value, you can use .loc function. (see example stackoverflow.com/questions/17071871/…)
